Contemporary Music Theory – Approaches, Challenges, Limits

The is an academic conference hosted by the Music and Dance Faculty of the Academy of Performing Arts , aka HAMU in Prague, held on 9–10 April 2026. The conference brings together researchers in music theory, musicology, and related disciplines to examine current analytical approaches, methodological developments, and the conceptual challenges facing music theory today. It provides an important platform for scholarly dialogue, fostering critical reflection on the scope and limitations of contemporary theoretical practice.

I  was delighted to participate in this conference, which brings together scholars to explore current developments, methodological perspectives, and emerging challenges in music theory research. The conference dinner on 9 April offered a particularly memorable opportunity to engage with distinguished senior scholars, and I felt greatly honoured to be included in such an inspiring group of researchers.
